Generali Global Assistance to Present at IdentityNorth Conference
31 May 2017Company to provide unique insight on medical identity fraud
Bethesda, Md. – May 30, 2017 – Generali Global Assistance (or “the Company”), a leader in the assistance industry since its founding in 1963 and part of the global Generali Group, and the developer of a proprietary and innovative identity protection platform, today announced that it will present at the IdentityNorth conference, taking place June 6-7, 2017 in Toronto. The Company will serve as a Gold Sponsor of the event and Dr. Eugene Delaune, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Generali Global Assistance, will host a presentation titled, “The Growing Concern of Medical Identity Fraud”, on Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00pm EDT, at TELUS Tower.
Dr. Delaune will leverage his significant subject matter expertise in both the identity protection and medical fields to provide attendees with a number of important considerations for organizations to help their customers protect against, and resolve, medical identity fraud. This particular type of fraud occurs when a nefarious party uses an individual’s personally identifiable information or protected health information to fraudulently receive medical services, prescription drugs, or other healthcare goods. The use of a false identity for fraudulent healthcare billing is also considered medical identity fraud. Dr. Delaune’s presentation will offer insights that are especially critical given the alarming increase in medical identity fraud in recent years, as well as the wide-ranging consequences of this crime.
Dr. Delaune commented on today’s news, “The costs of medical identity fraud can average in the thousands of dollars, but even more frightening are the medical impacts. Inaccurate medical records can create unsafe situations when there is confusion about the victim’s true health status, which can lead to misdiagnosis, mistreatment, and delay in receiving proper care. Additionally, disclosure of sensitive health information can lead to embarrassment and even employment issues. I look forward to arming IdentityNorth attendees with the information necessary to identify, prevent and resolve medical identity fraud.”
Generali Global Assistance will host a cocktail reception on Tuesday, June 6 from 5:30pm-6:30pm EDT at the conference venue in order to promote information-sharing and networking among those industry-leading professionals who will be in attendance. The Company has protected the assets of organizations and their customers for over 50 years, and was one of the first organizations to offer identity theft protection and resolution services in the United States. Medical identity fraud is one of the key types of identity crimes that Generali Global Assistance works tirelessly to protect against, and the Company has partnered with the Medical Identity Fraud Alliance for years to support this initiative.
Paige Schaffer, President and COO of Generali Global Assistance’s Identity and Digital Protection Services Global Unit, concluded, “While identity fraud is not as prevalent in Canada as in the U.S., our neighbors to the north still rank eleventh in the world in terms of identity theft rates. IdentityNorth is an ideal venue for exchanging information about identity protection trends and technologies, including those specifically pertinent to medical identity fraud and the Canadian market. We look forward to sharing our knowledge about the factors driving identity protection in today’s digital world, and are thrilled to be a part of such an outstanding conference.”
